I Would Rather Talk About Obamacare, Thank You
My latest letter designed to annoy the Foxwatchers who also read the Hays Daily News.
A co-worker told me that Obamacare is “messing up the country”, I replied that making health care available to more of our fellow citizens is actually “fixing up the country”. I was struck by how nice it is that we were discussing the minutia of the insurance industry, as opposed to subjects that concerned us in the near-recent past.
It has been some time since we analyzed the plummeting Dow-Jones index. We no longer have to discuss the body bags returning from Iraq. Despite the wishes of some of our Senators, we do not currently have to talk about body bags returning from Iran or Syria. This is undeniably a good thing for everyone.
Most people would rather have our most pressing issue be health insurance rates; as opposed to when we were concerned with collapsing buildings and the resulting thousands of casualties. We should be happy that we no longer have to talk about the economy shedding thousands of jobs each month.
Given the alternative topics from recent history, I am glad to discuss the changes taking place in our health care system; changes which will make health care better. Recent newspaper coverage leads me to believe the Hays Medical Center shares my outlook concerning the future of American health care, as they expand buildings and services. I am glad Senator Moran was in town to see this optimism first hand.

Pat Roberts, Jerry Moran, and the Guy at the Co-op
Senators Roberts and Moran have been working for us on
Second Amendment issues in Washington. There is a bill in the Senate that would
allow/direct the President to confiscate all privately owned firearms. I looked
for the bill number but could not find one; I'm sure the bill exists because a
guy at the co-op told me so.
Our Senators also voted against the background checks
bill because the Second Amendment gives us the right to bear arms without ever
having to fill out any paperwork. That last part is actually in the
Constitution; I learned that from the same guy.
P.S. For those who have no ear for sarcasm; yes, if you disagree with me on this issue, I am comparing you to Scut Farkas.

This time it is actually true! War on Religion
The follow-up to It's All True! War On Religion!
This time the letter contains actual truth.
Last week in the Readers Forum section of this paper a letter was published under the headline "Well Done". The letter decried the Obama administration's "war on religion" and extolled the work done on our behalf by our representatives in Congress; Pat Roberts, Jerry Moran and Tim Huelskamp. I trust that most of the readers picked up on the sarcasm; for you see, unlike some other letter writers, I deliberately wrote a letter where not a word was true.
If you have done your taxes for 2011, you know that the $800 tax credit you had in 2009 and 2010, called "Making Work Pay", disappeared in the pointless debt limit fight. When politicians, like our representatives, talk about the "failed stimulus", remember that legislation reduced your tax bill for two years but is gone now.
In fairness, I need to point out that this week Rep. Huelskamp voted for you to pay 2% less in FICA taxes in 2011 (the payroll tax holiday). Sen. Moran and Roberts voted "NO" and "Not Voting".
In 2008 we had a financial meltdown and a recession. In my original letter, I gave our representatives credit for figuring out to keep such a thing from ever happening again. The truth is, they have done nothing of the kind. In fact, they have obstructed other people's attempts to fix the problems by voting against legislation, threatening to nullify laws, and blocking Presidential appointments. "Well Done" is opposite of what we should say to our representatives in Congress.
The Feb. 13th letter , I mentioned a "war on religion", wherein Obama was going to force all women to take birth control pills, whether they wanted them or not. Did anyone really believe that? In reality, women will be able to follow whatever their religious beliefs are concerning contraceptives, regardless of health insurance regulations. There is no "war on religion"; have you heard of anyone doing time in Leavenworth because they are a Methodist?
This time it is all true.

You may have noticed a couple of places where I tried to inject humor in my monologue, but I did it without accusing any particular woman of being a slut and a prostitute.

Senator Moran vs. Boeing
The recent announcement of Boeing’s departure from Wichita is a blow to the local and state economy but it is even more of a blow to Kansas Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS). He was one of the politicians that got the Defense Department to reopen the competition to manufacture the next generation of Air Force tanker planes to replace the KC-135. The initial winner was Northrop/Grumman and EADS (the E stands for European), and much of the plane would have been manufactured in Alabama. Senator Moran, among others, was able to get the contract, worth as much as $4.4 Billion, for Boeing. The understanding here in Kansas was that this new plane would bring hundreds of jobs; nay, thousands of jobs to Wichita and Kansas. Sen. Moran proudly announced this victory to his constituents; “Way to go Jerry!”, we were so happy.
But now, Boeing will shut down the Wichita plant and manufacture the KC-46A in some other locality. Not only will there be no new jobs, the old jobs will be lost. This despite tax abatements and Industrial Revenue Bonds issued by state and local governments. The workers, the government at every level, and the regional economy will suffer; but worst of all, Boeing is making Jerry Moran look like a jackass.
Sen. Moran has opened himself up to ridicule and charges of hypocrisy by not adhering to the strict bumper-sticker ready ideology of the Tea Party. Despite saying, many times over the government doesn’t create jobs, he apparently actually believes that the Boeing tanker contract would create JOBS in Wichita. He also agreed with the Keynesian belief that government money will cause positive ripple effects throughout the economy. The only option he has to explain this away is the dubious position that ONLY defense spending is stimulative to the economy.
As a Tea Party ‘deficit hawk”, Sen. Moran is expected to vote NO on any new spending because of our national debt. But yet, he pushes for spending on a new airplane that would replace a plane that is still usable and functioning. He has voted against economic stimulus (including the Making Work Pay tax credit that reduced wage earners income tax bill by $850) and he voted against extending the 2% FICA reduction; in part because, “We can’t afford it”. In a fashion not unlike a Democrat, Jerry has shown us that he actually believes that there are some things worth deficit spending. (He includes aerial tankers on this list; we here at the TTFIATT(IAT) would also include Medicare)
After having debased himself from his Tea Party ideology by bowing to the pressure to “do the right thing”, Jerry Moran has the right to be PO’d at Boeing. So tell me, if as the Supreme Court and Mitt Romney tell us, corporations are people, then where can Senator Moran go to find that Boeing person and bust a boot in his/her butt?
